Review

"Taste in guide books can be a very personal thing, but few serious boaters will venture out without a Nicholson's Guide. There is a wealth of information that even the most experienced cannot hope to keep abreast of, and the guides are welcome valuable for cyclists and walkers too." The Inland Waterways Association.

Product Description

There are also comprehensive navigational notes as well as descriptions of the towns and villages, pubs and restaurants alongside the waterways.

• The history and background to each canal.
• Local services and places of interest, pubs and restaurants and NEW for this edition: postcodes added for each place.

Four Counties Ring 29 Jan 2010
Format:Spiral-bound
This little book is fantastic and provides very useful information an mileage and locks etc to help you plan the distance you need to travel each day. Also provides details of things to look out for on the way. An excellent guide to the 4 counties ring. Without this I doubt we would have got round the ring in the 1 week hire period.

This is a helpful easy to follow book while on the canals. We found this alongside a Pearsons guide a good combination. The maps are better in this guide, whereas the descriptions of the surroundings are better in the Pearsons guide.
It covers a large area, which should be adequate if cruising for a 1-2 weeks holiday.

probably the most informative when planning a cruise. Not always easy to follow the route through the book, but once into the logic, much easier.
The Editors need to make sure that textual references are easy to find on the associated mapping.
Could also do with more mooring site advice, particularly for areas where precautions need to be taken.

Good info. Pretty well essential to get the best out of your canal holiday. Could do with more navigation tips though, such as tunnel times.

Canal Guide
Good book for detail of your journey. May need a simpler guide for glancing at whilst steering the boat eg. Pearson's.
