5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, highly recomended. 20 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
Really clear and easy to read.
Printed on decent quality paper and has a lot of other useful sections, a Section of popular verb conjugations for example. A colour political map of france, information on 'text message' language, sections on Time, Holidays, work etc.

Best dictionary i've found, it's also a decent portable size, not too big and not so small it's fiddly to use.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for absolute beginners 6 May 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have been attending French evening classes for about two months now and I wanted to get a dictionary to help me out with my learning. This dictionary is great in that it covers all the basic words that you might want to know and also includes some handy verb tables. I was also impressed to see that it covers things such as "txt spk" that French people use - a nice touch.

My only gripe is that it doesn't include information on pronunciation of each word.

I would highly recommend this for anybody who is new to French. My copy also has the nice hard-wearing flexible cover - I'm not sure how to describe it. It's almost as if it's been woven, then laminated. However it's done, it's definitely more flexible and durable than the standard "card" type covers that some books have.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST-HAVE for those who study French. 2 Jun 2011
By Lucy. M
Format:Paperback
If you are buying this as a student or a parent of someone who studies French I highly recomend you buy this. It has helped me a lot. When I'm doing French homework and I need to look up a word it is so useful. We use these in lessons at school as well. If like me you have a French teacher who really persists that you buy a French Dictionary Collins is the best it is the most easy to use and helpful when needed for homework, revision or even to translate words that you don't understand used by people. My school also recommended this dictionary and Amazon has it at one of the best prices. If you are a keen student and if you want to do well in fRench assesments and exams buy this French Dictionary for help and to build your understanding and level of vocabulary. If you found my review helpful please tell me and if I didn't help comment to tell me what i could do better to help people looking to buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite good for what it is 4 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
It is a convenient (large) pocket size. It is very clear and user friendly. It has a number of additions, including good information on verb conjugations, and something you don't always find, text message language, which is useful. Happy to recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars NEARLY perfect 22 Sep 2010
By Mark
Format:Paperback
Extremely well laid out with good, functional use of colour and examples of how words are used. Some reference books have irregular binding and stiff paper (Both of these factors slow down lookup) In this case the paper and binding are well suited to help you find an entry quickly.
The only thing that lets this dictionary down is the COMPLETE omission of any sort of pronunciation guide. Why?!

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful G.C.S.E tool 9 Oct 2011
By Beka W
Format:Paperback
When my daughter began high school and came home with a recommended book list I did wonder how many of the titles we'd buy only to never have them used. Amazon offered the best price on this book and superb delivery times as always. My daughter uses her dictionary every lesson and for homework, the section in the centre covering frequently used terms has been particularly useful. As others have mentioned it is a good quality print, the only downside of this book is the weight, it's quite sizable for year nine pupils to haul to school and back each day which resulted in us eventually buying a second copy to keep at home.
