Hazel Soan's enthusiasm and talent shine through in the beautiful pictures in this book. The subject is how to achieve crisp, clean watercolours with a minimum of fuss. Hazel emphasizes the importance of observation, patience and hard work: there are no shortcuts, but the quality of her work is a continual inspiration.The book starts with materials, covers basic subjects such as shape and tone, and finishes with some demonstrations. It's a short book, but with a lot packed in. (The video of the same title is also well worth viewing.)

Hazel's enthusiasm for watercolour painting is evident on every page of this book. Her approach has something for everyone; beginners or the more experienced. I particularly liked the section that dealt with the use of colours and reserving white but there are useful tips throughout. A great book which has inspired me to improve my own technique.

This is a fantastic book full of Hazel Soan's unique ideas and style. It will inspire even the most timid of watercolourists to 'have a go' at her bold, confident use of colour.
