There is a section on pencil drawing, showing how tone can be built up in pencil, with an explanation on how to make a master drawing. There is also a section on using pen and ink.
There are many different flowers demonstrated in steps to help you to understand the stages needed in producung a detailed watercolour of a particular bloom.
Overall I found this to be a well written book with many useful techniques. However, I also found the flower paintings illustrated to be a little harsh.
