The book purchased is Collins English Dictionary Third edition updated 1994 ISBN 0 00470678-1.
This dictionary is current but the latest edition does not contain information that was in earlier editions. Amazon were able to track down an old edition exactly the same as my old one which had worn out through frequent use. This I subsequently bought. It was quite expensive but in excellent condition and obviously infrequently used and I am very pleased with the purchase. Delivery was rapid, about four days from placing order and the book was well packed to prevent damage in transit. This edition of the Collins English dictionary seems to be quite rare. It is out of print and not available from normal book sellers. The current edition which I also have is an excellent dictionary and while it larger than the older edition certain entries have been omitted.
