A valuable resource 5 April 2005
By Doh TOP 1000 REVIEWER
On first glance, it would be easy to think that this dictionary is aimed at younger students and perhaps it is, but I have found this to be an extremely useful resource. Although it might not cover the breadth of French words that other dictionaries of this size might do, it does give plenty of worked examples. Many times I've managed to find an example that is very similar to what I am trying to say. Often, all it takes is a fewer minor modifications. In the middle of the dictionary, there is a section on verbs, numbers, days of the week, how to write a letter, etc, which to be honest is pretty limited. Since buying this book, my French pen pals have commented on how my French has improved! Ok, so it might be cheating, but after a while it starts to stick in your mind. Highly recommended for beginner to intermediate students.

Very Useful 22 July 2007
By Terry
This is a good dictionary for the French language beginner. Each headword is presented in a blue font which makes finding the word you want very easy. Overall the presentation is very clear. Other dictionaries could learn from this example.

I am using this dictionary - along with other material - principally to learn how to read french rather than speak it so the lack of a pronunciation guide is not too much a problem for me - though I would still have preferred to see it.

Recommended.
