This big, almost A4 sized book is a valuable tool for using English today. The text is well laid out and easy to read.
There are entries not only for single words but also for terms such as `happy-go-lucky' `prime mover' and `select committee'. Some entries are like short to the point encyclopaedia entries. There are many useful `Usage Notes' that help the user avoid common mistakes in word usage. I will just quote one:
`Principle and Principal are often confused: the principal (not principle) reason for his departure; the plan was agreed in principle (not principal).'
The Thesaurus entries are laid out below the dictionary entries on the same pages with a smaller number of words referenced, but with a pretty comprehensive set of equivalent words for each.
All in all this is the missing link between large dictionary, thesaurus, compact encyclopaedia and English usage guide. Ideal for every student, budding writer - or Amazon reviewer - who wants to raise their game. Quite an achievement.
