As a beginner who has done Michel Thomas German Foundation Course, I found this dictionary most useful among many competitors (such as Oxford Duden or Langenscheidt) for three reasons: 1) most words are accompanied by pronunciation; 2) it is updated and printed in blue and white for easy read; 3) it comes with a separate grammar section as a quick reminder or for a quick look-though.
It is true that grammar section is not well organised but I think its breadth of coverage is excellent for this size of dictionary. As to grammar, I would recommend "Essential German Grammar" by Kohl, Durrell and Loftus (2002) which has a detailed (yet not daunting) explanation of German grammar.

I bought this Dictionary/Grammar because I already have both the French and Spanish version and always found them to be really good. So far the dictionary bit seems ok. However, I really don't like the grammar section. Blue lettering on blue background?No thanks. I think the verb section is terrible. The strong and mixed verb table is very difficult to follow as each entry goes across 2 pages - made even worse on pages 88 -89 where they don't even line up! Also I consulted the comparative/superlative adjective bit and got completely confused. Really quite disappointed.

Firstly, I use this dictionary largely for translation. After doing some research on the principality of Liechtenstein, I found English language articles on the country hard to come by. Rather than use Google translate, which can be hit and miss, I chose to revitalise my school German and, with a little help from this dictionary and a textbook, I found the dictionary to be more than capable.
The grammar section also is excellent, and about as good as can be expected from a dictionary such as this. Definitions, particularly from the German/English section are excellent. The typeface is clear, and, surprisingly for a 1100 page dictionary, isn't too bulky.
Very happy with this purchase. Would recommend.

Excellent product. My son is studying German in school and needed a good dictionary. He says this particular one is perfect because it translates English to German and vice versa.

Collins Dictionary & Grammar
This dictionary is a required reference book for preliminary German at the Open University. So far I have found it most useful an feel sure that my satisfaction shall continue.
