Product Description

Product Description

The essential two-in-one reference for the learner of French: an up-to-date dictionary and a user-friendly grammar in one handy volume.

Launched in 1997, the French Dictionary Plus Grammar is the ideal two-in-one reference tool for learners of French.

The new millennium edition of this practical, user-friendly dictionary has over 80,000 references and 120,000 translations. It includes the up-to-date vocabulary needed for effective communication in French and English, such as terms relating to the Internet and to the new Europe.

The grammar, which has been updated to present information in a clearer, more user-friendly manner and which contains a host of examples, is the perfect complement to the dictionary. Clear layout and typography make both the grammar and the dictionary very easy to use.

From the Publisher

Collins French Dictionary Plus Grammar is one of a series of practical dictionaries designed for the general user. As well as all the vocabulary required by the major examining boards, it gives full coverage of business and computing terms and a wide range of idioms and illustrative phrases to aid comprehension and self-expression in the foreign language. The emphasis is firmly on contemporary vocabulary, with clear signposting of differences in meaning guiding the user to the appropriate translation.

"Keyword" entries in both languages give in-depth treatment of the more complex words such as "get", "do", "more", "in" etc, and the dictionaries also include descriptions of cultural differences like Bank Holidays, Hallowe'en and District Councils.

The "Plus" feature of the dictionary is an extensive and easy-to-use guide to the grammar of the foreign language, with numerous examples of current usage. The verb tables show over 50 French verbs written out in full, with the tenses clearly marked for ease of reference.

Collins French Dictionary Plus Grammar meets all your language needs, giving full coverage of contemporary vocabulary and usage in a single handy volume. It
really is two books in one!

Great for your GCSE's. 30 April 2001
This is a super dictionary for students who are taking their GCSE's. It has been cleared to be taken into the french exam and is really useful in the writing exam. There a lots of useful phrases- some of which you can lift straight from the book and put into your writing- and also verb tables so you won't have to learn all the irregulars off by heart. A better buy than the Collin's Easy Learn!

Once one gets above novice level in learning French there arises
the dictionary problem. In the office one has a Collins-Robert
full edition but for everyday use one needs something lighter.
Pocket and Gem editions are never really satisfactory for
anything but novice use. This particular dictionary seems to
fit the gap nicely. It is small enough to carry with you on a
day to day basis but just comprehensive enough to be useful for
the slightly more advanced user. Presentation is good and just enough career specific words are included to be useful.

Think this is an excellent dictionary and good value for money. I like all the verb tables which are set out clearly. I lost my copy and had to get another to replace it.
