My girlfriend had a problem recently - she went to see a good friend in Swindon on a new housing estate. Sadly her satnav had a hissy fit on her. After an hour of going round in circles, I get the phone call asking for help...clearly its very difficult to help someone when you have no idea where they are or the area they are trying to get to!!!
In the end she got hold of her friend, who came and met her, but it was a frustrating time for her & I certainly felt like I got the blame!!!
Not going to happen again - Ive purchased this on the strength of the other reviews on Amazon. Yes, this is bigger than the ones you can pop into the glovebox, but I dont care - it is SO much easier to read & its Satnav friendly! This I have no doubt will go into one of the pockets on the back of her seats & will only get used for emergencies. But also, I think a map like this comes into its own when you are holidaying in the UK - you're staying in an area you don't know very well, but you want to get the best out of. This atlas will do that - it provides you with a really good feel for whats local to where you are.

This was a replacement for our 2007 Collins equivalent. It's the same size but quite a lot slimmer (162 pages, down from 238) and you soon find out why. The main maps are shrunk (3.2 vs 2.5 miles to the inch for most, 5 miles to the inch for much of Scotland). They seem to have the same detail on the 3.2 pages, everything's just shrunk. So that can make it hard to read in poor light but it does mean there's more map on each page and the stripes across the country seem to work well. The city approach and detailed town maps have been moved to the the front. The former are shown on the main maps but not the detailed ones, so if you're approaching somewhere such as Oxford you don't know if there's more detail available without checking the contents list. So we've got up to date maps at reasonable cost but I wish I'd gone for a book of maps with a better scale - I just thought if our old Collins book was fine the new one would be the same. Nope! And if we drive North of Edinburgh there's a lot less detail than in their 2007 book. So much for progress. It's a good thing I've now got an Android phone which can access detailed maps when there's a mobile data signal (like there often isn't in the Scottish Highlands).

Very clear and comprehensive with interesting detail. Although it is a little on the large side the ring binding means it is easier to handle.

Excellent Road Atlas
This is an excellent road atlas - bulky - but this is why the road map coverage is so brilliant. From Collins you know the mapping is accurate - some good maps of UK cities too. Read more
