My mum and I are novice collectors of Dolls. Imparticular we collect the Barbie & Sindy type Dolls. This book was OK for general use. It is for the General collector. It skips quite quickly over the Barbie and Sindy stuff.
However, it has opened our eyes to the fact that there are loads more beautiful dolls to collect out there and for that alone I would buy this book.
If you are just starting your collection it is a really good general reference guide.
The book is not a visual guide, as it contains few pictures, but it does conatin a wealth of information regarding marks etc.
All in all a really good book!

Sorry but I find the above review very confusing. This book has nearly 300 super photos and illustrations in it and has been the doll collectors 'bible' for British made dolls since it was first published in 1983. Has the review person above actually looked at it cos Barbie was an American doll so does not feature in this book. If you want to find out All about SINDY this appears in 'The History Of Sindy' by the same author COLETTE MANSELL. Both books are FAB and I can fully reccomend them, fantastically researched they have paved the way for other writers on dolls.

I purchased this book hoping to locate some of my childhood dolls.

However I found it didn't really help. It's not really that well presented, the layout is poor and it covers far too many eras.

I really wanted to focus on the 1960s and 1970s dolls and there just wasn't enough coverage of this.

This is a good informative book for collectors of dolls,it doesn't specialise in
one particlar make of doll or year of manufacture though. Good book just for learning more about collecting dolls for a person who has recently just started yo collect dolls.
