Product Description

Book Description

Collectively Yours portrays the varied facets of kibbutz life through the personal tales of real-life characters - lovers, mothers, idealists and revolutionaries. In the heat and isolation of the deserted borderline, personal conflict, social pressure and the tense security situation combine to reveal the strengths and weaknesses of human nature.

The book reveals the motives and aspirations, as well as the frustrations and achievements, as they strive to create a unique and novel way of life, the strains of collective living heightened by the political stalemates of the Suez crisis and the Six Day War.

Narrated with poignancy and humour, Collectively Yours is illustrated with some thirty cartoons from internal kibbutz magazines.

4.0 out of 5 stars An eye opening and fascinating read, 9 Sep 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Collectively Yours: Tales from the Borderline (Paperback)
Having bought this book locally and read it cover to cover in 2 days, I went searching for more information on the subject. Coming accross the same book on the Amazon site, I felt compelled to write a few words of praise.

This is a heart warming set of stories about a group of people who set out with a goal to build something new. The characters are complex and, on the whole, likable and the stories are compelling. Anyone who wants to find out more about the history of the kibbutz movement in this period of history could do well to start here. A good read too.
