More About the Author
Yours truly is a professional academic and consultant, who started his academic career as an Applied Mathematician and Engineer-Physicist. Master of Sciences and PhD degrees have been obtained from Moscow Physical Technological Institute, where I studied a way too many different subjects, although, how I see this now, I should be more centric on mathematical methods and algorithms for data interpretation; but the mere understanding of my passion did not come early. A long time, before this happened, sport and travel had much higher priorities in my life than the study. In addition to the aforementioned academic achievements, I have also a Doctor of Sciences degree, which is the highest academic degree in European countries.
With regard to teaching, I worked as an Associate Professor, and later as a Full Professor and Chair at Electrical Engineering Department at Academy of Transport, and simultaneously held position of Chief Scientist at Institute of Sensor Microelectronics of Russian Academy of Sciences. The title Full Professor is both a position and academic degree.
I like diversity and do not respect subject boundaries much, and this is why I do consulting on mathematical methods and computing algorithms in various fields of science and technology, in particular, financial mathematics, remote sensing, radiophysics, biology. This mixture looks strange at a first glance, but, in fact, it comes naturally if you do not block your mind intentionally to one specific area, and used to exercise the common sense on everyday basis, thus training your ability to get to the core of a problem quickly. Just take responsibility for what you are doing and rely on yourself, rather than specialists, who are just the same people from flesh and bones as you are.
To that day, I published nine books and over eighty academic articles, focusing on mathematical methods and algorithms for data interpretation and data processing. Some articles received awards from industry journals. The subject of data interpretation may sound as something boring, but, in fact, this is an exceptionally interesting, colorful and challenging area, when you are able to make sense, and in many instances very revealing and sometimes even of a fundamental importance, from the pile of seemingly amorphic data or subtle and very general hypothesis.
I publish also articles on philosophical issues, mostly on natural philosophy. In fact, three my books "Sums of exponential functions and their new fundamental properties, with applications to natural phenomena", "Properties and interrelationships of polynomial, exponential, logarithmic and power functions with applications to modeling natural phenomena" and "Physics of growth and replication" includes many philosophical considerations closely tied to the book's mathematical and biological content.
In the list of books, you can see a collection of poetry, which is my second book of verses, and a collection of short stories, travels and a little humor, both books in Russian. People like the stories, some honestly think that I am one the best modern writers in Russian, putting me somewhere in top five with regard to literary quality of my writings; certainly, not in popularity. I am not sure about such a high level, but many stories, from my perspective, are not bad, and magazines willingly publish them. This is not a coincidence, I know what I am doing when I write the stories.
Not many people read poetry these days, but who does, appreciate my verses and poems. This is the poetry about our life, nature, how we understand our human being and ourselves in this not easy going world. Maybe this reading is not for everybody, but the readers will be rewarded with new knowledge, thoughts, and all spectrum of emotions. Actually, these literary writings are on my web site, www.shestopaloff.ca, you do not need to buy a book to get an idea what is what.
