Slam have been on the techno and house scene for more than 20 years now and it's great to see on "Collecting Data" that their level of quality control is as high as ever - especially seeing the sheer amount of releases and remixes they have had in this last 4 years. This double CD is great value and a great retrospective of the Glaswegian duo's recent output and it's safe to say that these "living legends" have much to offer the electronic dance music scene. These guys are always looking firmly into the future - which they showed on last years Soma album with a Slam mix CD including nothing but brand new remixes of the catalogue Soma Records - 20 Years

Slam and Soma Records, two benchmarks of pure quality within electronic dance music. Years ahead of the competition with a timeless signature sound comprised of two variables, techno and house and a huge back catalogue that shows it's all been done with class, style and panache.

When Slam release a track or remix I must acquire said tune otherwise I know there's a gap in my collection. Two decades of consistently excellent output consolidates my desire to own all things Slam, seriously, over twenty years and there are perhaps one or two tracks which to my mind don't meet the standard. All these years I've been dedicated to the cause, trawling the record shops, painstakingly building a mighty fine collection, happily handing over my hard earned dosh when I discover this release. This compilation includes many remixes the duo have done for other artists and tracks released on labels other than Soma, there are tracks from Paragraph recordings and from Adam Beyer's Drumcode label which are particularly excellent. There's no point mentioning individual tracks, I have my favourites but with such quality it is all essentially necessary. How very dare they! It's been made too easy, musical brilliance over 2 cds and at a budget price. If I'd known this was on it's way I could have saved a lot of time and shoe leather. So what are you waiting for? It's all here, 4 years worth of output in a beautifully designed package, grab it and give thanks.

Slam ‎– Collecting Data 19 Dec. 2014

So even though Slam's album releases have been increasingly complex and melodic, what they were first known for -- slamming, solid techno -- is in full evidence on their 12"s and remixes, some of which have been gathered here on COLLECTING DATA. On the first disc, they take on artists big and small: Sasha, for instance, gets "Coma" transformed into a dub techno-like track, while Radio Slave's "Bell Clap Dance" bubbles with its subterranean rhythm. Spencer Parker's "Untitled Head" gets some undeniable funk, which echoes their own track, "We Doin' This Again?" These are club stompers, through and through, from the electronic tweets of Josh Wink's "Everybody to the Sun" to Dot Allison's dark, ringing "Cry." On the second disc, Slam showcases their own tracks, which, for the most part, stick to the deep and rhythmic. "Varience" is as thick as poured concrete, and the darkness that infuses "Metro Noir" creeps into the gradual build and squeal of "Hot Knives." "Maffaking" keeps things on the underground level, and while none of the tracks really distinguishes itself, the overall feel is one of throbbing energy begging to be released on the dancefloor. Massive fun.
