Bought this book to read to my class of 10 year olds. The poems are gritty, real and thought provoking accompanied by wonderful illustrations. The poems allow children to extend their vocabulary and lend themselves beautifully to indepth discussions on all aspects of life. A joy to read and discuss in the classroom and at home. I highly recommend this book to adults and children of 10 years plus alike.

I have been a fan of Carol Ann Duffy's poetry for some time now. But this is the first time I have read her poems for children. I am still dipping into this volume that contains over a hundred poems. So far, it has been an absolute delight. Duffy manages to write as if from a child's perspective. She has an unbridled imagination. Like fairy tales, she captures a sense of wonder at the newness of experiences in a child's life. "Moon" is about a small girl in school who is captivated by a bright, warm, charismatic new classmate with whom she becomes friends. "Whee" involves a person taking their head off throwing like a basket ball through the air and flying over their town to see the beauty of the place from the sky. It's about looking beyond...This could be a child..but it could be me too ? "Worry" is about a creature-like feeling taking up residence in a person's consciousness - staying and not going away. The images are so fresh and vibrant. They make you look at the world and at life in totally new ways. Do read this wonderful collection. You will enjoy it immensely. Children are lucky to have such a poet.
