By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Since his suicide the poetry of John Berryman has reached a much wider readership here in Europe, and with good reason. Much of the first half of his Collected Poems contains poetry that is so rich in language and beauty that one is shocked that one has never heard or read any of his work before. His "Homage to Mistress Broadstreet" remains one of the best long poems of the post-war era and revals Berryman as a master of style and syntax, almost equal to that of his immediate contemporary Robert Lowell.
His later more confessional poems ring with honesty and desperation and, quite often, a hard sarcastic humour, revealing a man well aware of not only his talent and abilities but also his flaws. This book is a must for anyone interested in modern American poetry.

Definitive Berryman 17 Aug 2008
By Dennis M. Hammes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
All the poems but the /Dream Songs/, which are collected separately (also from Amazon). The included /Sonnets/ are from the original ms carbons, unemended, but with the five extra of the 1964 first edition.
Easy typeface and size, stanzas properly divided.
Adequate bio for all but Berryman scholars.
You like Berryman in whole or part, or you don't, and this is where you'll find out. If you do, a must-have (also the /Dream Songs/).
