Product Description
Of all the poets writing today, Brian Patten is perhaps the most accessible and popular. Now his love poems, old and new, are collected together in his single volume. Widely acknowledged as one of Europe's foremost writers, Brian Patten's love poems have earned him recognition far and wide. Truthful and tender, profoundly aware of the possibility of magic and the miraculous, these poems are beautiful, informed and, even at their darkest moments, filled with courage and hope. Alongside old favourites, this edition will contain a selection of new and hitherto unpublished poems. This is a must for lovers and poetry lovers everywhere this February.

Poetry can affect you in different ways. I stumbled upon this book and was taken in from the very first page. Patten's poetry is such that each and every poem is simple, resonant, and elegant. His view on love is often twisted around realism and the fact that while love is beautiful, it is also painful and susceptible to the aging impact of mediocrity and loss. Yet from time to time you stumble upon a poem that is clear, concise, and so full of hope that you can't help but feel that hope, too, that there is something more and something better, like the poem "Doubt Shall Not Make an End of You". And the odd line stands out - blades of grass, dawn lighting inside. When you finish the book all you want to do is flip back to the first page and read it again and again and again. Fantastic work. Amazing.
