Product Description

Gather, Navigate, Welcome, Fortify, Surrender, Save, Listen, Make Mistakes. These are some of the messages renowned artist Nikki McClure affirms in this gorgeous monograph of her paper cuts. Organized by season, these delicate pieces exude an optimism that revolves around community, sustenance, parenting, and appreciating both urban and rural landscapes. McClure's work reminds us of the important things: the change of seasons, slowing down the world for a moment so we can actually taste it, looking up at the stars to dream. This reissue of the 2007 art book includes 64 pages of new, breathtaking art and makes the perfect gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Took my breath away 13 Jun 2007
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I've been a fan of Nikki McClure's work for a few years now. I've bought one of her poster sets from Buy Olympia before (seemingly the only source of her work online, until this book) and a small handmade book about chickens. Her imagery is so bold yet delicate, and her sparse use of words - 'commune', 'voice', 'pause' - is so powerful. Each of her pieces is like a visual poem; a haiku, condensed, that stays with you.

I was agonising over what present to get for a very dear friend - it had to be perfect - when I discovered that Nikki McClure had finally released a book! I had assumed it would only be available in the US, but to my delight had it, and at a very reasonable price too. I bought it for her right away.

I just returned from holiday to find the book waiting for me. As the title of this review says, it took my breath away. Readers, this book is GORGEOUS. Picking it up for the first time, it felt like it was worth 5 or 10 times what I paid for it. It's huge, first of all, like a rare atlas you weren't allowed to touch when you were a child. The cloth spine with silver lettering is beautiful, as is the glossy cover. There is an introduction by Nikki inside, after a stark black page - perfect for a note written in silver pen. The images in the book are huge, bright, bold, high-quality, just stunning. Everything about this book is so overwhelmingly lovely. If I could give it 10 stars, I would!

If you're reading this and haven't clicked 'add to shopping basket' yet, go and do it now! Buy one for you and for a friend. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful artwork! 24 Sep 2009
By C. Allen - Published on
I had seen some posters of this artist's work but hesitated to buy one because I couldn't decide which I liked best and they were a little expensive - and then I found this book in a coffeeshop and fell in love. Her intricate paper-cuts look almost like woodblock prints - they are bold and often simple. Her use of line is wonderful. I love her work!

This is a beautiful collection of McClure's work. My whole family loves it. We revisit the book every new season to read her transcendent visions of nature's progress .

The artwork is heartfelt, touching. It gives the viewer a quiet comfort. Looking through these pages makes you feel at home in this big world.

Great as a gift, coffee table adornment and addition to any art collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful artistic book celebrating the seasons 28 Dec 2007
By Kevin Watt - Published on

This was a book I randomly picked up at borders because I thought the cover looked pretty. It sounded too expensive to me at the time, but I keep thinking about it, so I'm biting the bullet and purchasing it so I can pull it out when the thought strikes...
