Product Description

Opening that first Darth Vader figure and putting him in a Landspeeder. Imagining a snowy elementary school playground as the wastes of Hoth. Seeing Return of the Jedi on opening night.

Moments like these - and a galaxy more - make up three decades of "Memoirs of a Star Wars Geek." Author John Booth takes the reader from a childhood packed with Star Wars guys (never "action figures") and Christmas wishes both fulfilled and unrealized, through the years when the trilogy lay dormant to the mainstream public's eye, and into an age of seeing George Lucas' universe as an adult while exploring it again as a parent.

This newly-expanded electronic edition includes the author's interviews with Star Wars cast and crew members reflecting on the saga's impact from both first-generation-fan standpoints and a career spent bringing the universe to life on-screen.

Gracefully laying bare both the good and not-so-good times, this collection is a love letter from a self-aware geek written under the sometimes harsh light of hindsight, softened with understanding. It captures the innocence and wonder and infinite possibilities of what it meant to an eight-year-old to Collect All 21!

5.0 out of 5 stars I was EXACTLY like this!!!, 12 Jan 2012
This review is from: Collect All 21! - Memoirs of a Star Wars Geek (Kindle Edition)
As a Star Wars fan since the age of six, I went through exactly the same things this author did, only in the UK, not the States. It doesn't matter where though because the feelings brought back in this book were absolutely magical...the toys, the cards, the storybooks (he's right, WHY were there no AT AT photos in the ESB storybook?? I was as gutted as he was!) the transfer sets, the activity books and school stuff...and the stories of how in later life something as seemingly trivial as Star Wars helped him through some very bad times in his life.

I related so much to this and smiled all the way through most of it, especially the early chapters. A world where you could only see Star Wars on the big screen, before videos and DVDs? Where other kids had the toys you wanted? The games you'd concoct with the figures? The inches thick stacks of trading cards? All here.

If you're a big Star Wars fan, particularly one born around 1972, you'll love this...my first Kindle book, read in a day. Can't recommend it enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia!, 7 Feb 2012
By Matt Kelland - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Collect All 21! - Memoirs of a Star Wars Geek (Kindle Edition)
I'm not a massive Star Wars geek, but I do remember the excitement when I was eleven and the first movie came out, and we all spent every penny we had on Star Wars stuff - figures, bubble gum cards, and everything else. This book brought back all the joy I experienced back then, and I found myself reliving a lot of happy memories. It's a must-read for fans, and a piece of feelgood nostalgia for those of us of the right age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extras make it worth a second look, 4 Feb 2012
By Michael Eckhardt - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Collect All 21! - Memoirs of a Star Wars Geek (Kindle Edition)
As a Star wars fan I've had a hard copy of "Collect All 21!" for a couple of years now but I recently picked up the digital copy when it was on sale for my new Kindle. I was pleasantly surprised to find more new content. The main body of the book is still comfortably the same, tales of nostalgia of growing up during the height of the Original Star Wars craze and being envious of kids with the action figure or vehicle you wanted, endlessly discussing the movies and seeking out any scrap of new information in those pre-internet, pre-spoiler days. The newer sections include interviews the author did with Lorne Peterson, Dave Filoni, Dee Bradley Baker and Matthew Wood and make an excellent bonus to an already excellent book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great reminder of how I felt as a kid, 18 Feb 2012

The author did a great job helping me bring to the surface emotions that I'd long ago forgotten. Think he's a few years younger than me as he was into the collectables (I took an informal poll and everyone that I asked my age loved the movies (well IV, and V anywho), but didn't actually collect any of the merch). But that part was interesting as well. I do remember pushing around someones Speeder (which I wouldn't have recalled if I hadn't read this) as a kid though. I mostly made all my Star Wars stuff out of my lego collection.

Interesting sub stories about his relationships with friends and family too.

Check it out if you watched Star Wars as a kid.
