Practical, in-depth advice for leaders and practitioners.,
This review is from: Collaborative Advantage: How Organisations Win by Working Together (Hardcover)
Elizabeth Lank has achieved the difficult task of creating a book which is thorough and in-depth, yet practical, pragmatic and highly readable.Too many books on subjects relating to collaboration fall into the trap of being overloaded with theory, or becoming aggregates of case studies which lack an analytical framework or big-picture view. This is *not* one of those books! The analysis is robust and immediately applicable; the stories and examples are memorable and the quality of the production of the book is excellent (you’ll need it in hardback, because you’ll keep picking it up!). Recommended reading for practitioners, professionals, postgraduates and business leaders.

Full of post it notes!,
This review is from: Collaborative Advantage: How Organisations Win by Working Together (Hardcover)
I've filled my copy with post it notes, highlighting quotes and relevant passages - I found the book an excellent resource - very comprehensively written, and I felt almost a handbook for developing organisations, with examples and tables to support the discussion within the publication. This is not an academic book with references to theorists, but well written, and contextualises the benefits and highlights a wide range of examples of effective collaboration. This book, although purchased to support my course and ideal background reading, I believe it will be a reference guide in these belt-tightening times....
If you want to look at further publications regarding collaboration, Lank references this publication, Working Across Boundaries: Collaboration in Public Services (Government Beyond the Centre) which I have found excellent.

A Very Practical Guide,
This review is from: Collaborative Advantage: How Organisations Win by Working Together (Hardcover)
This is a very practical and useful guide to collaboration. I agree with the previous reviewer that this is thankfully not a book overloaded with theory, but one full of very useful techniques and checklists. Partnership working is becoming of great strategic importance to private and public sector organisations alike, and this book is a welcome addition for anyone involved in this area. The book is easy to read with a good balance of practical guidance and case studies. As a consultant I found myself thinking "I must use some of these guidelines", which for me is the 'proof of the pudding'. If you are interested in how to make any form of partnership or collaborative venture work then this book should be of interest to you. I thoroughly recommend it.
