Product Description

Product Description
The autobiography of Colin Seeley. 1950s Britain was a time of great innovation for the motorcycle. In 1954, riding his father's Vincent outfit, little did he realise how interwoven his own life and the motorcycle scene would become. Through sheer hard work and determination Colin built his reputation as a perfectionist in all things, well respected then and now. Packed with photographs, the book is one man's vivid memories of motorcycle racing, from the thrills of sidecar racing to the development of the Seeley marque, CSRD and the highly regarded sponsorship and service for racers lucky enough to have the friendship and professional interest of Colin Seeley. Colin's book is full of anecdotes, escapades, personalities on and off the track, giving a fantastic insight into racing and technical achievements over three great decades in motorcycling history. If you were there you'll love reliving them. If you weren't, you'll wish you had been! The book is lavishly illustrated in full colour.

4.0 out of 5 stars `60s nostalgia - i was there!, 9 Feb 2008
By P. F. louis (Leics.) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is quite a comprehensive work undertaken by Colin Seeley. It chronicles much of the great days of 1960s motorcycle road racing.I personally came to be fanatical about this sport after a chance visit to the Easter Monday car races at Mallory park in 1965.I was pretty bored. But the next day the Easter Tuesday Trophy motorcycle races set my passions alight. This event, in which Colin Seeley was a competitor, is documented in the book as is just about every race he rode in and almost all of the important events of this decade. If you lived through this period, as i did both as a spectator and a racing sidecar passenger, you will certainly enjoy this work. Many of the photographs really take you back to the skills, excitement, bravery of the riders and the many varied sounds of the factory machines of the day.The text will remind all of the huge danger riders of this era faced with serious injury and death all too much a reality.Virtually no run offs,no gravel traps as well as Armco type of barriers - good for the car racers of the day but not for the two wheel brigade.Well written and mostly factually accurate, for me there were just a few mistakes which i feel a proof reader or keen amateur would have picked up on would have made it even better.
Finally i found the over use of nicknames a little irritating!!"Prince of Speed","Pocket Rocket", "Maidstone Marvel", "Mooneyes Cooper" etc. etc.seemed to detract from the overall enjoyment of this book.
It was considered to be the Daily Telegraph`s "Motoring Book of the Year" 2006. I eagerly await Vol. 2 which will cover the latter part of Mr. Seeley`s career.Would like to give this book four and a half stars if i could!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Pictures but...., 20 April 2007
By Andrew J. Collins (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Great Pictures, but the text boils down to a running commentary of each race and race meeting entered. Gets a bit repetitive and I found myself skipping through chunks. Wish it had more of the personal story stuff. Book is a bit bulky to read on the toilet-where most guys like to read.
