As a 'branded' item I expected this to be good, and it is. I use it to run a 12v coolbox. There are cheaper ones available but as a word of warning (apologies if you already know this) but check that the 12v transformer/adapter you buy is up to the job. Some transformer/adapters have a pathetically puny output and will just go belly-up on you, or maybe worse - have a look at some of the reviews for other cheaper models with some horror stories.
The power consumption of your coolbox (or whatever 12v appliance you are using) needs to be checked against the power output of the transformer. If you already know this, then I'm probably sounding patronising - sorry - but if you didn't, then its worth checking before you buy.
As for this one: It works well, doesn't get hot, feels solidly made. The lead is a good length, and there's a 'cigarette lighter' style socket in the side of the box top plug in your appliance. It's also 'fused', with easy access and an easily replaced fuse, just in case you do overload it.

I wanted something to charge my Sat-Nav, out of the car, which is rated at 12v & a maximum load of 1.5amp. This transformer is capable of a maximum load of 8amps; more than adequate & hence charged my Sat-Nav within a couple of hours from 'flat' & it (the transformer) didn't get excessively warm - nice! The unit is well built as is the built in 12v standard car type power socket located on the l/h side of the unit, diagonally opposite the power cord.
The afore mentioned power cord is of a decent length, a generous metre. Well recommended & good value! Definitely need to purchase a 12v 'cool box' to keep the beers cool when cutting the grass... Thanks Amazon for your prompt service as usual!

Purchased the Campingaz Thermo Electric Cooler 24 Litre for a road trip to Switzerland. Pre chilled the food and drinks, added a couple of freezer ice packs, plugged it in to the 240V/12V transformer which was purchased as an optional extra to enable the chilling process to commence within the home, plugged it into the cigarette lighter when we set off, opened the coolbox on route for breaks, contents were still ice cold when we arrived at Switzerland 12 hours after departing. On Arrival at our daughters it was late so I left the contents in the coolbox and plugged it into the transformer using the 240 volt household socket until morning, contents still ice cold! Worthwhile buying the transformer as it removes the temptation to leave the coolbox plugged in and running from the vehicle for long periods without the engine running which could result in vehicle battery going flat.

Bought this as a household power supply for my Halfords electric cool box.Cool boxes work best if prechilled, but doing that in the car is just not practical. The Halfords equivolent is nearly twice the price, but no better a product, almost half the price of the coolbox itself,as it happens.
Runs the Halfords box and precharges any other 12v appliances, like sat navs, before you set off in the car.

Great item. It does exactly as described! We it used with a Halfords cool box with no problems running it for a week solid.

It's what it says on the box bought for the use of cooling the cool box before putting it in the car.

It does what it says, however those who know the older, bigger model will know that will run a car tyre inflator at full speed. This newer model only pulses an inflator, so takes a lot longer to pump up tyres such as on a bicycle. If you only want to run a coolbox or charge a mobile phone, then it is just the job!

the transformer works fine
we use ours to power our fridge/cool box when we are camping, it worked non stop for 5days no probs
but you must remember it is only rated 5amps so you may find that it cannot power some things
it cannot power my mini compressor for inflating my car tyres, this i was expecting
also it cannot power the little pump that inflates the air beds!this i was not expecting(maybe we have a super power pump)?
so check that all the things you want to use with this are less than 5amps
all these type of transformers seem to be like this and i dont know why, one with a 7 or 8amp rating would be much more usefull
