This facinating collection of films is let down badly by a horrible title ("British Nuclear Scare Stories") as it's really a collection of information films that may have been used in a possible build up to a nuclear exchange. The first set of films are Public Information Films aimed at the public on to protect themselves from nuclear attack - the early 60s precursor to the far more frightening "Protect and Survive" from the 1970s. The other films look at training the Civil Defence in how to deal with nuclear attack. They are very interesting historical documents as they reveal much about how Britain was to prepare for and react to, nuclear attack in the 1960s. They are almost quite chilling in their naivety on how a nuclear attack would have changed Britain forever.

This DVD is a must for any Cold War buffs. These films have been largely unavailable until now and show what would have appeared on TV screens in the '60s had it looked like war was close. While this advice, and later advice on 'Protect and Survive' has often been ridiculed, it was probably the best that the government could give.
The Civil Defence Corps films and 'Sound an Alarm' about the UK Warning and Monitoring Organisation are also excellent.

Best viewed alongside the 'Protect and Survive' DVD and its extras, including the '70s version of the UKWMO film.
