5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute classic 3 July 2014
Format:Audio CD
illy Joel's first studio album (released in 1971) and an absolute classic.

Includes such fantastic tracks as the tender She's Got A Way, the upbeat Everybody Loves You Now, the beautiful Why Judy Why, and the bluesy Tomorrow Is Today, as well as a taste of Joel's piano mastery with Nocturne.

Clear why this beautiful album launched Billy Joel's career.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best 14 Nov 2004

This is the rawest, freshest Joel album there is!
It feels like a classical song cycle and the clarity of his voice allows simplw songs to touch the heart deeply.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best Billy Joel album? 13 Dec 2008
Format:Audio CD
I was surprised how much I enjoy this album, but you may not enjoy it so much if you really like Billy's later period material. This is a fairly short album, in fact this currently available version (and all the CD versions on CBS/Columbia/Sony BMG) are a remix from the 80s. It is generally a sparser mix than the original which is a shame as I prefer the original mix. However the original vinyl issues play too fast and the severity of this changes from track to track! If you really like this album try to track down the original - a search on the net should help you find out what %age pitch adjustment to make to match the tempos on the remix.

The very first of C.D's brought out by Joel one for the collection of any Joel fan....not the greatest of Joel's albums but nevertheless enjoyable

4.0 out of 5 stars A blistering start 16 Feb 2013
By Ricoh
Format:Audio CD
Oh Billy where did it all go wrong. The quality of his early work is incredible, Piano Man, Turnstiles, Streetlife Serenade and the Stranger, which was the album that made him a star. I felt though after the Stranger his work tailed off and it seemed like he was producing just radio friendly material, light years away from songs like Piano man and Captain Jack. I suppose people were buying it, so can't blame him, but i found it all very tepid. I have only just purchased this, which was his debut album and it stands up well amongst his earlier work. Early listenings have impressed me, and i reckon it will be on the player for a while yet.
