Having read Cold Blood and seen several of Ms La Plante's TV adaptations, I was looking forward to reading this one. Cold Blood followed Lorraine Page into New Orleans and into trouble, to be rescued by her whits and those of her friends. Cold Shoulder takes her into the seemier side of Tinseltown and the author deals with the subject with her usual sharp eye for narative. Unfortunately Ms La Plante seems to have written herself into a corner, with the reult that the book has a good beginning and middle but that the end was very disappointing, unbalanced and apparently rushed, as if she had got tired of the plot and characters and wanted them out of the way. As a result I wouldn't even recommend this to Ms La Plant's many admirers other than those who want to be able to say "I've read that". Try Cold Blood or one of the Prime Suspects.
