Having read Cold Blood and seen several of Ms La Plante's TV adaptations, I was looking forward to reading this one. Cold Blood followed Lorraine Page into New Orleans and into trouble, to be rescued by her whits and those of her friends. Cold Shoulder takes her into the seemier side of Tinseltown and the author deals with the subject with her usual sharp eye for narative. Unfortunately Ms La Plante seems to have written herself into a corner, with the reult that the book has a good beginning and middle but that the end was very disappointing, unbalanced and apparently rushed, as if she had got tired of the plot and characters and wanted them out of the way. As a result I wouldn't even recommend this to Ms La Plant's many admirers other than those who want to be able to say "I've read that". Try Cold Blood or one of the Prime Suspects.

My 1st Kindle Book! 5 Jan 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
How bitterly disappointing...... and so slow - and this is from a Lynda La Plante fan!
Perhaps I'm naive but I didn't expect the Kindle edition to be different from the paperback! The first paperback chapter (reviewed on Amazon) bears no relationship at all to the ebook version.
And all those proof-reading errors....was it proof-read at all?
I have yet to read my 2nd Kindle book but if it's as poor as this one I'm afraid the Kindle will be consigned to the attic and it will be back to hard copies from then.

The first of Lynda La Plantes Lorraine Page novels is a must. This is the story of a police womans struggle with alcohol abuse that costs a young mans life, her job, her family and her dignity. Working as a prostitute Lorraine comes face to face with a vicious killer, this brush with death leads not only to a manhunt for the murderer on the streets of L.A. but to Lorraine facing up to her past, and attempting to reassemble her shattered life. As usual the strength of La Plantes characters shines through, making this a fast paced and unmissable read.

Page Turner - really well written
First book of a trilogy. So well written that, when thinking about it afterwards, you feel you've seen it on television. Really well rounded characters - unputdownable!
