A classic, Rational Youth show that Canada can create great synth too, their gain is our loss.

There isn't a single poor track to be found with everyone a potential classic. If you think along the same lines as Human League's "Dare" but far better then you can't go wrong.

The styles of music range from the heartbreaking "I Want to See The Light", the wry commentary of "Dancing on the Berlin Wall" and the great dancefloor track "City of Night".

It's a shame this has been overlooked for long but there's something that you can do about it - buy it and spread the word about great synthpop.

A Classic Masterpiece!! 13 Feb 2004
By Ståle Myhre-Wollnich - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is a MUST buy for every synth\electronic freak out there! This album is from the 80`s, and was fighting for attention amongst kraftwerk, tangerine dream, depeche mode, ultravox etc. Cold War Night Life is a beautiful album in every way, with magnificent synth-electronique and very good texts. The tracks:"close to nature",beware the fly","just a sound in the night" and "city of night" is very good songs. The highlights in my opinion comes with "saturdays in silesia","ring the bells" and "dancing on the berlin wall". There is also an instrumental called "le meilleur des mondes" wich is also very very nice! Great stuff from Howe,Vorn and Komoda! try also "all our saturdays" a best of collection from Rational Youth.

Brilliant debut electronic album from early-80s Canadian underground music scene. 26 Mar 2014

What can you say about this album that cannot be summed up in the album's title? Mixing references to Cold War geopolitics with a dance beat, Rational Youth created a veritable classic. Listen to "Dancing on the Berlin Wall" and one is struck by how much the song prefigured the actual tearing down of the wall in November 1989, particularly with its image of people dancing on the wall and melodic strains of "Ode to Joy" from Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 which plays during the instrumental break. Highly recommended for those who like a strong conceptual link with their electronic music.
