Wanting to escape city life for the countryside, New Yorkers Cooper Tilson (Quaid), his wife Leah (Stone) and their two children move into a dilatpidated old mansion still filled with the possessions of the previous family. Turning it into their dream house soon becomes a living nightmare when the previous owner (Dorff) shows up, and a series of terrifying incidents lead them on a spine-tingling search for clues to the estate's dark and lurid past...

Great movie!! 2 Feb 2012
Format:DVD
Just noticed that this movie has not recieved one 5 star review. Why??? I actually really like this movie. It actually totally caught me by surprise because when I first saw it I didn't know what it was about. When it ended, I loved it!!

A family buys a home that a bank has foreclosed on. A member of a previous family shows up and all seems good at first but soon the houses dark past comes to light. As someone else said in a review here, it's a bit like the movie Cape Fear. If you like Cape Fear, you'll like this.

Any gripes? Well, I have one. The bad guy at the end, I felt his downfall was too easy. He's a physco killer and I was hoping for more intense action at the end. Also, the way he was "pinned" leading to his downfall, I can't understand that, I could have got out of that position with ease.

Other then that, this is a great move, it really is, and if you want a bit of intensity and drama, you can't go wrong.

If you are a fan of "Pacific Heights" or "Cape Fear" you might probably enjoy this. Stephen Dorff plays the psycho character that tries to ruin peoples lives by being difficult to get rid of. Ok a few bits were predictable but that's like all of these thriller type films. However a few bits got me going. All in all a good film and great acting by all the characters.

not lovable 20 Oct 2008
Format:DVD
As I bought this film I was surprised how I had never heard of the title when it looked like such a good movie, but after watching it I have realised it's because the story is boring and predictable and as a result of that I can't even begin to give it a good mark!!!Stone is her usual pouty, moody character that she seems to play in most of her films and Dennis Quaid got on my nerves constantly, playing the hurt and distraught husband trying to 'keep his family safe' which has been done before in many other films!!Nothing really original here, a man trying to get revenge on people, a few fights, a sex scene or two and then a climax which seems to have have been done before as well!!

How incredibly predictable and dull...
Don't let the casting fool you - plenty of famous faces, but a terrible film! 1 hr 50 minutes of absolute nonsense, for a predictable and boring ending. Read more

Derivative stalker in a mansion movie
This movie smells of class, with a decent cast (Sharon Stone, Dennis Quaid) and respected `character' director, Mike Figgis. So what went wrong..? Read more

shocking
It was actually quite shocking that Mike Figgis of all people could have made such a cheap horrible film. Maybe he did it for the money, but even so he should have done it better. Read more

OBVIOUSLY A JOKE
I think Mike Figgis is a genius (to some extent - Look at Timecode!) But this film is one of the worst I've ever seen. But guess what? It's a joke. It HAS to be. Read more
