Product Description

Mike Figgis directs this tense thriller in which husband and wife, Cooper (Dennis Quaid) and Leah (Sharon Stone), decide to opt for a quiet life in the countryside to bring up their children and get away from the frantic pace of New York. The family moves into a sprawling ramshackle house which has been repossessed and needs a lot of renovation work. They soon turn the house into their own ideal family home but when the previous owner, Dale Massie (Stephen Dorff), turns up on their doorstep after serving time in prison, he makes it clear that he still considers the house his. What the family also discover is that there is a sinister history to the house and that newcomers to Cold Creek are not as welcome as at first appeared.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Underrated! 30 Aug 2012
By ReviewBlog51 TOP 500 REVIEWER
I picked this movie up for two pounds, after reading all of the negative reviews on here for it, I was not really expecting very much.

When I watched it for myself I was very surprised, I really enjoyed it. We know that Dennis Quaid and Sharon Stone are great actors, and as always, give excellent performances. All of the other players in the film are also on top form, in particular, Stephen Dorff.

'Cold Creek Manor' (like so many of Mike Figgis' movies, 'Stormy Monday' being a perfect example) is a very atmospheric film. It's certainly creepy and there is a constant tension running through it throughout.

The story is not a particularly original, and there have been many movies like it before, and will continue to be. A troubled family leave their problems and life behind in the city and start a fresh in the country. It isn't long however until the people find much greater problems in their new surroundings than those they left behind.

It is far from one of the best horror films out there, but people should not expect it to be, 'Cold Creek Manor' is a well acted and a very entertaining piece nevertheless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Certainly not as dull as others are making out 24 Aug 2009
If you are a fan of "Pacific Heights" or "Cape Fear" you might probably enjoy this. Stephen Dorff plays the psycho character that tries to ruin peoples lives by being difficult to get rid of. Ok a few bits were predictable but that's like all of these thriller type films. However a few bits got me going. All in all a good film and great acting by all the characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining film 15 Aug 2004
I disagree with the guy that said it was an aide to help you get off to sleep. It is a brillent film with a slow unravelling story line. The film starts developing characters and it does this very well, this is aided by the excellent acting all round. Tension slowly builds till you have an explosive finalé.
The story itself is about a family who move into a house, the house is old and the father of the family is paid to film a documentary on the history of the house. This slowly leads to the discovery that some people had died there.
The bit on the box saying its a house giving up its secrets is wrong, it is more about the father finding loose ends in the recent history, and his mistrusting of the previous occupant. The story is kinda predictable, but it is so well done it doesn't matter, it is a great watch and the final 20 minutes top it all off well. It is a good film which is well acted with very few flaws, basically its a must see.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie!! 2 Feb 2012
Just noticed that this movie has not recieved one 5 star review. Why??? I actually really like this movie. It actually totally caught me by surprise because when I first saw it I didn't know what it was about. When it ended, I loved it!!

A family buys a home that a bank has foreclosed on. A member of a previous family shows up and all seems good at first but soon the houses dark past comes to light. As someone else said in a review here, it's a bit like the movie Cape Fear. If you like Cape Fear, you'll like this.

Any gripes? Well, I have one. The bad guy at the end, I felt his downfall was too easy. He's a physco killer and I was hoping for more intense action at the end. Also, the way he was "pinned" leading to his downfall, I can't understand that, I could have got out of that position with ease.

Other then that, this is a great move, it really is, and if you want a bit of intensity and drama, you can't go wrong.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cold Creek Manor 28 Jun 2014
By Shirley
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
An old film I watched on NTL in Ireland and it caught my attention at the beginning, then like most films it loses it's way and becomes a farce. Dennis Quaid in his hey day and an ageing Sharon Stone could not save this drivel that was supposed to be a suspenseful thriller about two New Yorkers who buy a house in the country for a quiet life and then things start to go wrong, but nothing remotely interesting really happen's.

3.0 out of 5 stars So So film 6 Jun 2012
A relatively good film, not massively scary but a good film none the less, a very good ending though. Very good finale. All in all 7/10 is the score I'd give this film. Worth watching.

1.0 out of 5 stars cold creek manor 21 July 2004
Cold creek manor is the best thing to watch if you have trouble getting off to sleep. I guarantee you will be in the land of nod before you are halfway through this offering. The write-up on the box sounds too good to be true, 'an edge of your seat thriller' it most certainly is not, with descriptions about the manor house 'giving up its secrets' a total misleading quote as the storyline centres on a previous resident who is found out about killing his family, which not one single clue to this revelation comes from 'the house'. The movie reminds me of a 'made for tv' film as it keeps fading to black, with the watcher expecting adverts to appear, and the soundtrack just keeps repeating a 3 second guitar riff (which sounds like it could have lifted from the Biggles soundtrack)at what the film makers deem to be 'tense' moments. A real time waster.
