Topo (Brian Cranston) a partially sighted Russian criminal takes a Hotel owner Chloe (Alice Eve) in a desperate attempt to recover illicit money from his car after it has been impounded by Police after a murder.
An average thriller goes up a few notches thanks to it's excellent two leads, we know Cranston can play evil, jeez the guy's 'Breaking Bads' Walt! but he is ably supported by Alice Eve in a low key but powerful performance, though sadly she's all plain Jane in this flick sporting woolly jumpers, no 'Star Trek' "Hello Boys" moments here folks!

Some neat twists with some gritty violence, worth a look

Chloe (Alice Eve) runs a small motel off the beaten path in upstate New York near the Canadian border. She is a single mom trying to raise her daughter Sophia (Ursula Parker). The motel is frequented by drug users and prostitutes to the dismay of social services who have given her an ultimatum. She is friends with Billy (Logan Marshall-Green) a local cop who is also dirty.

Through a series of circumstances Chloe is forced to work with Topo (Bryan Cranston) , a near blind Russian transporter who is attempting to recover a lost package.

The movie builds slow to develop character which smartly evolves during the film. This is a crime/drama indie thriller that was done well, filmed on location. The opening scene during the credits created a cold wintry feel through sight and sound. Good quality work by writer.director Tze Chun. I would like to see what he could do with a real budget.

Worth a view for those who enjoy an indie thriller.

Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

This DVD I have purchased on the strength of the performance of Bryan Cranston in the very successful television series he recently completed. he also incidentially was the father figure in 'Malcolm in the Middle. This role was of course a million miles from Malcolm in the Middle but nonetheless enjoyable for that fact. I recommend this DVD.

Disappointing. This movie is more a vehicle to state how good an actor 'Mr White' is. The movie is well scripted and tells of a story which slowly unravels into a tale which I would not believe was considered box office. It is light drama with a twist.
Good acting, good script, good direction but missing Hitchcock's spin.

In a small quiet backwater American Town, Motel owner & struggling single mum Chloe (Eve) get's embroiled with a mysterious, half blind Polish bagman Topo (Cranston), when his driver is killed & left stranded. Taking her & her daughter hostage, they must help him recover his package from the local corrupt law enforcement.

Cold Comes The Night is a budget orientated crime thriller thats a vey welcome find. The story is a little cliche & predictable but has enough surprises in it & solid acing performances to keep you engaged. The setting is reserved which helps you buy into this situation. While the action is raw & old school that it feels natural & not forced or over the top, which can be the downfall of budget films that try to do too much & look cheap doing it, so kudos for showing restraint & maintaining effectiveness.

Alice Eve (She's Out Of My League) is the main character & has the most fleshed out backstory compared to her co-stars, although you can embellish on those yourself. She is very believable as the strong willed mother whose had to survive on the poverty line by turning a blind eye to criminal activities. Whose strength of character builds as the film goes on, makes her easy to root for. Bryan Cranston (Godzilla) as the half blind, red tinted glasses wearing, Topo, is mesmerising , albeit his Polish/Russian accent breaks the immersion a little at times. As his world weary face has masses of screen presence, and you find your self hanging on his every word.

I thought this film to be excellent despite the reviews I've read on here, so decides to have a look myself. plot easy to fallow unlike some so great for those late nights when tired. keeps you guessing as to what you'd do in her place, fight or flight. the only let down was the copper in it as by the end you'd just wish he'd vanish, poor acting there.

Nothing new at all here in fact is quite pedestrian. Cranston has a duboius accent but Alice Eve is good. Its was aiming to be a kinda film noir but failed a little
