Product Description

When Bobby Maiden is revived after dying in an accident, his memories are of a harsh place he doesn't wish to revisit. But his experience means that he may be able to reach a serial murderer who returns to stone circles, burial mounds and churches in the belief he is defending Britain's heritage.

From the Back Cover

Life isn't easy for Detective Inspector Bobby Maiden. Death is even harder.

When Maiden is revived in hospital after dying in a hit and run incident, his memories are not the familiar ones of bright lights and angelic music, only of a cold, harsh place he has no wish to revisit...ever.

But his experience means that Bobby Maiden may be the only person who can reach The Green Man, a serial murderer the police don't even know exists...a predator who returns to stone circles, burial mounds and ancient churches in the belief that he is defending Britain's sacred heritage.

Meanwhile, New Age journalist Grayle Underhill arrives from New York to search for her sister who's become obsessed with the arcane mysteries of the Stone Age.

The bloody trail leads to a remote village on the Welsh Border...and to people who know there are more crimes in heaven and earth...

5.0 out of 5 stars At last - a crime novel worth reading!, 27 May 2005
This book cries out to be televised! It's an excellent offering in the crime genre with a gripping plot, three dimensional characters that you find yourself caring about and it's unusually set among the standing stone monuments of the British Isles.

The predatory serial killer and self-styled Green Man is so elusive that the police don't even realise he exists, but not all detectives are policemen - enter transvestite ventriloquist, come psychic Shaman and detective, Cindy Mars-Lewis - a welcome break from the Poirot and Miss Marple types, together with Bobby Maiden, a policeman brought back from the dead with no rosy illusions of light-filled tunnels and loved ones waiting.

There appear to be only the two books by Will Kingdom (aka Phil Rickman) at present, so I have to ask when will there be MORE???

Read them, you'll like them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Chiller Novel!, 13 Jun 2001
By n.pember@ntlworld.com (Huddersfield, West Yorkshire) - See all my reviews
This first novel from Will Kingdom is quite brilliant. Written in a neat, easy flowing style that at its best is reminiscent of the best of both UK and US stylists (a cross between Ian Rankin and Elmore Leonard, but probably most identified with the excellent UK writer Phil Rickman), The Cold Calling is a well-paced horror novel published as a mainstream crime novel. This is of course no bad thing, what with the current state of horror fiction. It might put some readers off, though. Which would be a pity, because the people who like Stephen King and Phil Rickman will love this. The book is at heart a mystery novel, though one that takes in large doses of the supernatural, and it is the mystery that drives the book from page one. The detective hero who dies and is brought back from the dead to track down a mysterious serial killer (who the police don`t even believe exists) is a wonderful creation, and one I would hope might make a return in future Kingdom books. To say any more about this book would only diminish its surprise ending, but I for one enjoyed it ... and so have the other people I`ve lent the book to. Go and order it now, they don`t come much better than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars well written and suspenseful thriller, edge of the seater!, 13 Feb 2002

(REAL NAME)
This book was extremely gratifying in the knowledge obtained and entwined throughout the story of some of the Uk's most mystifying and famous landmarks. Very deeply constructed, I enjoyed losing myself in its depths and feeling I was part of the story. Well Done!!
