This is by far and away the best version of the Bathory story I have ever read. It is tense and engrossing. Elizabeth Bathory was a mass murderer who lived in Transylvania in the 15/1600s. Because she used the blood of her victims for bathing and drinking it is highly likely that she was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. Vlad Dracula was her uncle I think. She was the original vampire. The Hammer film "Blood Countess" is a great version of the story but this book takes it into another dimension. It's great. I love the characters and the way they are weaved together. There is lots of horror too so horror fans will not be disappointed. It is also written in a really strong literary style, so readers of good books will not be disappointed either. Go and buy it. You will soon find yourself in the terrible world of torture and blood lust that she created. I give it a resounding five stars.
