Just a little word of warning about this cap - it doesn't fit the squarer P series filter holder. The tab used to insert/remove it stops it from sliding fully into the holder. Had to cut off part of the tab to make it fit properly.

First I want to say this is not the sellers fault!
Cokin engineers (if the product is genuine) have really got it wrong here!
The P252 cap does not fit the P-adapter. It will NOT go into place. It leaves a gap opening at the bottom due to the tabs design. Cokin should know better! I will keep the stupid cap because it offers some protection and because I will keep the evidence to show my friends. I cannot recommend this product and score it as low as possible. If you are good with your hands and use Cokin filters you can make a more intelligent and efficient protective cap using simple school materials such as cardboard and glue! Cokin: you should be embarrassed! Seller: Pull this product off your shelve!

It's a cap for the lens... actually it's not; it's a cover for the filters on the Cokin filter holder. As it sits in front of the filters, or near to the lens if not filters are attached. That's the only real downside: it doesn't fit over the lens, allowing dust etc onto the lens. But... it does provide good protection for your filters if, say you're on the move and shooting, so if you think of it that way then it's a good device.

I have two cokin-type holders - the standard and the wide - but neither are actual cokin ones, so that might make a difference. (I think mine are kood.)

On the standard holder, the cap fits perfectly. One reviewer says there is a gap between the cap and the lens, but I don't think there is a discernable gap. If you put the cap in the nearest slot (the one that normal filters won't fit in, which is for the polarising filters) it fits leaving no gap at all (as far as I can tell).

So it is ideal for just leaving the filter holder on the lens permanently, using this as the lens cap.

With the wide holder, however, the cap doesn't go all the way down. That said, it is is still adequate (for a lens with a 67mm filter size anyway) and - presumably - may fit better on the official cokin version.

I have used the Cokin System "A" series for several years but with the new lenses I have for my Canon DSLR these would cause vignetting on the photos so the P series was the answer. I purchased the Hood, Cap and and Holder from Amazon and was surprised to find it arrived within a couple of days. I am now purchasing the filters for the P series as the A filters will not fit the P series Holder. (You can get an adaptor to convert P series to A series but can only be used on a few selected lenses.)
All in all a great purchased.

This is a very simple yet useful accessory for the cokin filter set. I am very happy with it. It is light weight, and provides excellent protection for my Cokin filters and my lens when the filter is removed.
