5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and Emotional 4 Oct 2012
By Ali
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I downloaded this book on the recomnmendation of a Facebook friend and I'm so glad that I did. The storyline is so touching and beautifully written, exploring the emotions both of a mother desperate not to lose the bond built with her only daughter and the daughter's turmoil in discovering the circumstances of her birth. I was moved by the revelations throughout the story and felt real empathy for the main characters. The turmoil felt by the mother in trying to balance what she believes is in her daughter's best interests and her own need not to re-live past events comes across and is expertly handled by the author. A true gem of a story which I would happily recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A captivating, insightful story 24 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Maria Savva has skillfully woven a captivating, insightful story that revolves around a string of coincidences that set a young woman on a quest to find the dad she has never known. Page one pulled me immediately into the story, setting a riveting and even mystical tone for the revelations to come.
Stephanie Turnbull is a single mom who has raised her daughter, Alice, into adulthood. Alice has rarely questioned the reason that her dad left them, feeling loved and content in the close relationship that she has with her mother. The initial seed that triggers her quest is a frightfully real-feeling nightmare of a plane crash. The next morning, Alice is on London's overcrowded Underground system heading to work when she sees the headlines relating details of an airplane crashing into the Atlantic. A second nightmare has Alice waking up screaming, gasping for air due to being underwater. The seed of wonder begins to sprout when the papers print a photo of one of the survivors, a young woman who looks a lot like Alice.
The resonance of the flow from scene to scene and encounter to encounter was so well integrated. The timeliness of the introductions of characters that became integral to the forward movement of this story was expertly scripted. It is the dialogues between mother and daughter and their individual thoughts that became so captivatingly rich to me. Stephanie's fears of revealing secrets to Alice regarding her birth are profound as is the passionate urges that Alice has to find out the truth.
Who is the young woman survivor of that plane crash and what is the relevance of Alice's nightmares? Does a Roger Forester, the name of Alice's father, really exist? If so, what made him leave his daughter and never contact her again?

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good read 24 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've read all of Maria Savva's books and I have never been disappointed - Coincidences is no exception. From beginning to end, I enjoyed its storyline, characters and 'reality'.

I never like to give spoilers, but I will say that the story picks on a subject that relates to many people and uses sensitivity and intelligence to make the point and deal with the relative issues. The author is able to 'get into the minds' of the characters in such a way that the reader cares about what will happen to them.

Even though it was a fast-paced book, I was impatient with my reading, as I wanted to know what happened - such was the cleverness of the writing.

Yes, I loved it, and would highly recommend this book.

Format:Kindle Edition
This is an intriguing tale of an innocent and vulnerable young woman who starts to experience strange coincidences that lead her to question her family background. The suspense keeps you turning the pages all the way to the end, wanting to find out what the protagonist is desperate for: the truth. A very enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely story! 2 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Susan Buchanan from Goodreads recommended this book and I am glad she did. Just my kind of story, mysterious and spooky.
Fast paced in places and well plotted with brilliant dialogue, I thought a little more narrative might have calmed it as there were times I was almost out of breath.
Maria says that authors are slightly mad and I have to agree, but that's probably what makes us so special!

4.0 out of 5 stars A really good read 16 Oct 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This story was recommended to me by another author on Twitter. I downloaded it when it was free, but I would have happily paid for this book.
I enjoyed this story from the start, but from about Chapter 5 I was seriously hooked, I couldn't put it down and finished it within 2 days.
I don't want to say too much about the story, as I think it unfolds nicely as you read. All I can say is READ IT. You won't be disappointed.
I will be reading the other books written by Maria Savva.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Coincidences' by Maria Savva 28 Jan 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
'Coincidences' is Maria Savva's first novel. This book presents a story about a twenty one year old Law student called Alice Turnball. Alice's father left home when she was two and her mother had to cope and bring Alice up on her own. Alice is very close to her mother and her friends are also very loyal to her. As a result of this the people in Alice's life have never actually let her down. Alice also has a developing romance with a boy called Andrew who is a fellow student. All could not be better until Alice decides to find her father.
As Alice risks the steady relationships she already has with her friends and mother, she starts to hunt for the truth. Alice has never heard anything about her father since he left. Little does Alice know all in her life is about to change.
I really enjoy reading Maria Savva's written work. The focus within Maria's writing is on the actual relationships, emotions and interactions of the main characters within her story. There is also a distinct sociological perspective evident within this author's writing as well. This story is about events in real life that could happen to any one of us at any time.
'Coincidences'by Maria Savva is one of those books that is really worth obtaining and taking the time to read.
