This book was on the recommended reading list for my course (PGDip CBT) and was one of two books flagged as essential (along with Judith Beck's Basics and Beyond). This proved to be very true as it has been a practical, informative and accessible guide throughout the course.

The clear layout makes it very easy to dip in and out of as needed when time is short, and it sets out the most helpful conceptualisations and explanations at the start of each section. I found it helped me to understand some ideas that I was unsure of - it is certainly not a jargon-filled, academics-only tome.

I am certain that I will continue to use this book and would heartily recommend it to anybody looking to practice CBT with anxiety disorders (or any disorders actually, as it is helpful in terms of the overall process). If you are considering buying one book as a starting point for this reason, in my experience this is the one to get.

This book by Adrian Wells is a comprehensive and informative overview on the authors thinking about a number of anxiety disorders and their treatment. Few researchers are as much in touch with their patients and at the same time are able to outline the essence of the problems of these patients in such an understandable and yet precise fashion. I highly recommend this book to all psychotherapists and especially to cognitive-behavioral therapists that treat patients with anxiety disorders. I feel that after reading this book, I have understood a great deal more about anxiety disorders, my patients and how to treat them than i had before (that is after about 4 years of practise and an equal amout of time of research and study of these disorders).

This is an excellent manual and guide for anyone interested in Cognitive Therapy. It discusses in depth the the theory and models of anxiety yet manages to be an 'easy' read. This book is indispensable to anyone who is working in the field whether they are trainees or experienced therapists. I refer to it constantly and have never found anything to be missing! It methodically covers assessment and clinical measures, the basic techniques of cognitive therapy, then goes on to discuss in great detail the major disorders that can be treated using CT.
