Product Description

Product Description

For undergraduate level courses in Cognition and Theories of Learning.

The psychology of human memory and cognition is fascinating, dealing with questions and ideas that are inherently interesting, such as how we think, reason, remember, and use language. Using a first person narrative, posing direct questions to the reader, and balancing classic research with cutting edge topics, the author draws in the reader and conveys the excitement of the field.

Reflecting the increasing use of new technologies to study memory and cognition, Ashcraft and the new co-author, Gabriel Radvansky, continue to integrate sections on neurosciences within individual chapter topics.

The Gold Standard in Chlld Development Textbooks

Laura E. Berk

Chlld Development

“Writing Style: fabulous! Information in these chapters is consistently presented in a clear, concise style. The reader is very much ‘involved’ in the material.”

“Berk’s emphasis on culture is excellent and I think superior to most other development books. She includes a wide variety of interesting, relevant, and thorough cultural examples in boxes and throughout the chapters.”

“This is an extremely comprehensive and well written chapter on emotional development. I found the presentation clear and concise, and an appropriate blend of theoretical background and detailed descriptions of research results.”

“I think that Berk Child Development is an excellent text. It is up-to-date and comprehensive. At the same time, it is highly readable and very attractive.”

“Laura Berk’s texts are distinctive because they are research-focused and extraordinarily well-written. I also deeply appreciate the integrity of her thinking and presentation of issues: she does not dodge or unduly simplify difficult developmental problems or scientific questions.”

“We (Psychology Faculty at Brigham Young University) have consistently concluded that Dr. Berk’s child development text is the most accurate, coherent, comprehensive, and insightful offering on the market. Her careful, systematic approach to organizing the knowledge base in the field serves our students well.”

“I particularly appreciate Berk’s inclusion of multicultural perspectives. It is important to help students, particularly those who are just beginning their professional preparation, to put what we know about young children and their development into a cultural context. This text does that masterfully with words AND with pictures.”

There are not many pictures in this book and so it's quite a hard book to dip in and out of.
Good quality book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great information, but boring 2 Nov 2011

The book has a lot of information, I just find it to be dry. I am highly interested in the topic, but reading this seems like pulling teeth. There must be a more interesting way to introduce interesting topics.
3.0 out of 5 stars Some good information, some not so.... 8 Jun 2014

Excellent reference to our complex process of memory, however the rest of text is very tedious, not very interesting and very boring.
As the gentleman said sometimes it was very similar to pulling teeth.

excellent price. Not sure why it was listed as having a hard cover, but it has a soft cover as expected from the selling price. Shipping is extremely fast too.

My wife used this for her class and she thought it was organized well and easy to read. We use Amazon and other online textbook sites to get the best deal and Amazon was cheapest on this one. A good deal.

Cognition is an area of psychology where I believed I needed more knowledge to bring to my high school classroom. This text enhanced my education and will continue to provide a resource to my classroom.
