After the stunning cliff hanger of Code Geass's first season, audiences were left waiting for the continuation of the series and if my reactions are any indication, they weren't disappointed.
The story picks up a year later, the Black Knights have been defeated and scattered, their leader Zero reported dead and yet Lelouch is still alive with no memory of his true identity, both as Zero and as an exiled Brittanian prince. However, nothing can keep a guy as determined as Lelouch down and he soon reclaims his mantle as leader of the Black Knights and continues his rebellion against the Brittanian Empire, once more bringing him into conflict with his best friend Suzaku, who is now a nobleman and elite knight of the empire.
R2 continues the action sequences, engaging storylines, plot twists and snappy dialogue that made the first half of the series such a smash hit and introduces new characters in addition to bringing back old characters that appeared in the first series. The voice cast is as well selected as ever and Johnny Yong Bosch continues to make an outstanding Lelouch Lamperouge, perfectly conveying the character's complex thoughts and motivations.
This is a great DVD set and since it's a continuation of the first two box sets, it doesn't waste time in explaining the history of the series. If you liked the first half of Code Geass, this is definitely worth watching but if you're new to the series, you really need to watch the first two volumes otherwise you are not going to have a clue what's going on.
