Biography

Grammy Award-winning harmonica virtuoso Sugar Blue is not your typical bluesman. He wasn't raised on a Southern farm or even on the South Side of Chicago -- he was raised in Harlem, New York. He didn't grow up with blues all around him -- he grew up with the sounds of Billie Holiday and James Brown and all the acts that played the Apollo Theatre. Sugar Blue has used this background to ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Harmonica that will melt your ears 1 May 2009
By H. Oram
Format:Audio CD
I never thought that it was possible to play blues harp like Sugar Blue does. I had the fortune to go and see him playing live recently and his playing was out of his world. I would recommend this album to any blues lovers, his technical ability on the harp would put some of the best guitar players to shame.

This man is a totally fabulous player with a high lonesome voice to back it up. This is well up there with his best work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet as Sugar!! 16 Mar 2009
By Kim A. Mcginnis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I'm not to familiar with this gentlemans body of work, but his Harmonica speaks volumes. "High you can't Buy" has great harmonica work that never fails to please. "Chicago Blues" ad "Bad Boy's Heaven" are also stellar works.
If you like a Harmonica that doesn't run over your blues, Sugar Blue has got it.
