Stunning!!! A great album by a great band, 7 Jun 2002

K's Choice by all rights should be huge. Sarah Bettens has a gorgeous voice, the songs are intelligently written and played beautifully. I brought this CD after hearing 'Virgin State of Mind' on the fantastic Buffy CD, and I now own all their albums. 'Cocoon Crash' is my favourite, it's more upbeat than 'Amost Happy' (although I love 'Almost Happy' too). Stand out tracks are 'Believe' - a belter of a song - and 'Hide' with lyrics like 'Watch me, I'm coming closer, I am the mood you're in tonight' it's dark but truely amazing. 'Everything For Free', 'Cocoon Crash', 'Too Many Happy Faces' and 'Winners' are all great great songs, in fact I'm hard pushed to find a track I dislike. What more can I say - Buy it!

strong, powerful, varied...definitely worth a listen, 29 Feb 2000

i discovered k's choice whilst working in europe last summer ('99). i bought 'cocoon crash' because i'd heard the first track ('believe') and loved the fact that it was moving and heartfelt, with gentle, passionate lyrics, at the same time as having a bold and powerful sound. the rest of the cd largely lives up to 'believe''s promise, and is pleasingly varied. with tracks like 'cocoon crash' and 'hide' very much in the realms of indie rock whilst others ('god in my bed' and '20 000 seconds') are much gentler, the album nevertheless holds together well. the sound is distinctive; it is a dark one, yet with a core of positivity. at moments it is melancholy, but never depressing. much of it doesn't make for good background music; the sound will either pull you in or repulse you (although in the case of most of the people i've played it to it's been the former). vocalist sarah has a versatile voice and sings the words (all english by the way) with dramatic delivery. you believe she means them, and for that reason find yourself really wanting to listen. i don't love every track by any means, but find myself coming back to this album again and again. it seems to lack any pretense, which is probably partly what sells it to me. if you've always hated every type of indie music you'd probably best steer clear, but of not it's definitely worth a go.

WOW!, 8 Feb 2005
This album is absolutely amazing, I can't believe K's Choice CDs aren't available in England because they are one of the most unusual and talented bands I have ever come across! There is something for everyone within this album, whether your taste is loud (cocoon crash/hide) or quiet (quiet little place/20,000 seconds) you will find something that captures your soul! Poignant, funny, immensely talented music!
