Having revived my delightful foray into Spanish cuisine and finding it most alluring, I recently acquired this book after it went out of print - and went into reprint. The full flavours of Spanish dishes that people world wide find themselves swooning over can be found here in this humble yet beautifully presented cookbook by Jane Lawson. I found out about it in '06 thru a much-loved and well-used copy of 'delicious.' magazine, and when I found I couldn't get a copy of the book I was quite upset (because all the dishes featured in the magazine were so good!).
The search ended here! -as well as locally when the book came back into print in the current soft cover edition.
Jane knows her foods, and it is proven in the way the dishes effortlessly come together, and we have found a favourite at our table in the recipe for Chicken with Sherry, Orange and Olives. As with all Spanish foods, the flavour stays strong right to the end of the dish - and you lick your lips, unable to wait for dessert!
Even if you're not a fan of some of the 'warmer' more traditionally spicy dishes Spain is known for, there is definitely something here for everyone. You won't regret owning this book, and all the ingredients are easy to come by - or if need be, substituted. If you're looking for something new instead of cooking the "same old, same old", grab a copy of this!!
Recipe titles include: pimientos rellenos, dates with blue cheese and jamon, coca, sweet pork empanadas, quince and three cheese tartlets, frosted horchata, as well as all the usual suspects of Spanish cookbooks. Don't let the titles intimidate you, as there are gorgeous full colour pics opposite each recipe. I never knew what some of these things were until I saw them, and they are soooo good to taste. The book also came with the recommendation of a local chef who has tried almost every single recipe and loved them, and that said enough on its own! There are several sassy sauces that go with some of the dishes (as well as the staple traditional "allioli" - or garlic mayo) that are able to be made on their own if you like nice chutneys with your sandwhiches or meat.
Too easy :)
