The unit shares many features with the Cobra Microtalk 110 including an automatic battery saving mode, a key-lock function to avoid accidental operation and the charmingly named "Auto Squelch" which optionally suppresses weak signals to reduce noise. The key benefit of the Microtalk 220 is the fact that it has 39 sub channels for each of the 8 principal channels giving a massive choice of 312 different frequencies--essential in built-up areas where personal radio usage is more common.
For a device that comfortably fits in the pocket, the range is impressive, although hills, valleys and buildings will drastically reduce this. On the down side, the key-lock function does not apply to the volume controls making it possible to miss a call if the volume has been lowered accidentally. Also the power button is poorly positioned, frequently resulting in the unit turning on unintentionally.
The unit is suitable for use in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Spain, UK, Portugal and Sweden.--Nick Baxter
An audible incoming-call alert lets one unit ring another to initiate a conversation, and the talk-confirmation tone indicates the completion of your transmission and signals others that it's clear to talk. The electronic memory remembers the last channel used, while the key lock, when activated, prevents accidental channel change. Other convenient features include a water-resistant body, a backlit LCD display, a monitor function, a headphone/speaker jack, a belt clip (which doubles as a desk stand) and a low-battery indicator.
The Cobra FRS 220 is powered by four AAA batteries (not included) or an optional NiMH rechargeable battery (not included). Charge pads allow a trickle charge of the NiMH battery pack by placing the radio in a charger (not included). You can expect 20 to 25 hours of operation with either battery type.

Great little radio...but...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cobra Microtalk 220 Two-way Radio - Twin Pack Purple (Electronics)
Tired of yelling for the kids or your better half? Looking for them in the mall, in the house or at the camp site. Then this is for you! I've been a radio hobbist for years and these little radios are neat! You can use over 340 'channel' combinations on 4 AAA batteries. But here's the rub, the batteries only last 24 hours or LESS total time. The range is pretty good for only 500Mv (about one-half watt) in the city I can go about 3/4 of a mile. Clean clear communications, no static and a neat 'call' button feature. For a family this is a great little radio. Don't expect to get the 2 miles as claimed, unless you are in the desert on open field. Get the rechargable battery packs and charger, you'll need it!

I just got these walkie talkies for the holidays. As soon as I opened the battery back thing, it broke off. But, otherwise its great for just talking to people. It has great radio reception and is loud and clear. Well worth the money...
