This pack consists of two handsets and two belt clips, which double up as desk stands, batteries for the handsets are not included. The handsets are pretty rugged and all the buttons are rubberised. Although the antennas are quite long, they are very flexible, so they will bend if needed. The handsets also come with a unique power-saving device to maximise battery life. If there are no transmissions, after 10 seconds, the unit will switch to battery saving mode and the display will show the power save message. For low light or night time use, a button below the display activates the backlight, and there is a pair of covered sockets on the top of the unit for a headset or lapel microphone, available separately. These units are half-duplex, which means you need to press the talk button to transmit, and release to receive. Volume is adjustable, and the handsets contain an auto-squelch circuit which cuts off weak signals and unwanted noise. However, auto squelch can be temporarily disabled to extend the range of the units. A roger beep will be transmitted when you release the talk button, which alerts the other party that you have finished talking, and you can use the call button to attract the other party's attention. There is one with the power button, which has a tendency to switch on when accidentally knocked, causing drain to the battery life. The Cobra Microtalk 110 is ideal for people who need to stay in touch over short distances, such as hikers, mountain bikers and within large buildings.--Simon Pickstock
