About the Author
Graham Clarke trained in horticulture at the Royal Horticultural Society Garden, Wisley, and then spent a year working in the gardens at Buckingham Palace. He has been a gardening writer for over 25 years and is author of many popular books, including Success with Water-saving Gardens and five other titles in the Success with series. A former editor of Horticulture Week, Graham still contributes to this industry favourite as well as Healthy & Organic Living, Amateur Gardening and The Garden. John Bickerton trained as a designer and gained a wide experience in this area working for Amateur Gardening and Your Garden magazines, designing and coordinating their show gardens at Chelsea Flower Show, Hampton Court Flower Show, Ideal Home, Amateur Gardening Spring Show and the National Amateur Gardening Shows including achieving a Gold Medal at Chelsea 1998.

ive been after a book on coastal plants for some time & this one is perfect.
not only does it give all the trees, shrubs, perrenials and annuals BUT IT ALSO identifies which are tolerant of wind and other extremes.
we live a mile inland but at the top of a hill overlooking the sea & we get extremes of weather from mists to wind , but we have good soil- ours is however very different from friends that live right near the beach but sheltered away - who have poor sandy soil and we have BOTH found this book useful.

Love this book. Its given me lots of ideas about my garden and the lovely images have helped and inspired me. Buy it before you move, as it also has a section on pros and cons of living by the sea and not just from a gardening point of view. Very useful list of plants that will survive in the coastal salt and wind.

I've tried loads of other 'seaside gardening' books and none have been as good as this. At first I thought it was all about other peoples gardens - great photography, but not what I thought it would be. I was pleasantly surprised. This books is so informative - it lists the different sorts of seaside garden depending on how sheltered the garden is and/or how close to the sea etc. Things I hadn't considered I must admit.
The list of plants at the back is very comprehensive and I think anyone with a garden living anywhere near the sea needs this book. Would recommend it highly.
