Uncle Bob does it again. He's on a hot streak in 2007 and this is his most straight pop release of the bunch and for a while for that matter.

Some classic tracks here from the soaring chorus of Miles Under The Skin, the freaky yet catchy Penumbra, the majestic Slow Hamilton and classic Pollard ditty closer Nicely Now. Almost anything here could be a single and those scared off by Pollard's more experimental leanings need not be afraid to tread here.

Not just one for the die-hards then, anyone with a passing interest in quality music made by a true artist would enjoy this.

Not his finest 21 April 2010

This is one of only a few Pollard-records which failed to connect with me. The songs are a bit too anonymous and the sound is too "kind". The album does have a coherent feeling but gives the impression of Pollard trying to make a laidback album.

Only on the underrated Miles Under The Skin we get a sense of the intensity and greatness of Pollards songwriting.

Starters into Pollards solo-career should check out Normal happiness or From A Compound Eye.
It's a grower 29 Mar 2012

When this CD and "Standard Gargoyle Decisions" were first released, quite frankly, I didn't know what to make of them. I gave them a few listens, liked a few tracks, and then apparently moved on to something else. I think maybe at the time I was more into "Sgt. Disco" (the 2007 Circus Devils release, and quite a masterpeice!). Well, almost 5 years later, i've come to realize that these CD's are just as good as anything else he's released! "Dumb Lady", "Customers Throat", "Miles Under the Skin", "Slow Hamilton", "Youth Leagues"....man, these are all absolute classics! This CD and "Standard Gargoyle Decisions" are real growers. Keep listening....they grow into fantastic music!
Definitely not his best 2 Dec 2009
By Chris Carter - Published on Amazon.com

My favorite tracks on here are the simplest ones, "Miles Under The Skin" and "Slow Hamilton". "Our Gaze" is a fine opener, but honestly, I think he's trying to make complicated progressive rock/pop, and some of the best pop, and this applies to GBV too, is the simplest stuff. That's what resonates with me anyway. There's no need, in my opinion, to over-arrange songs that would work better if they had 25 less chords/changes in them. You know? Ultimately, it seems like music from the head rather than the heart. Not much memorable here.
