Up to date (2010) in all respects, and well-organised, this is an extemely useful handbook for anyone coaching cricket with youngsters. The book assumes no formal qualifications, and has plenty of ideas for coaching sessions. Practical and re-assuring. Author and experienced cricketer and coach Ian Pont says that naturally-gifted star players rarely make good coaches - because they simply don't understand the problems most of us have! So long as you are keen on cricket, want to encourage youngsters in the sport, and concentrate on enthusiasm and improvement (rather than results) this book could be invaluable.

An excellent book. Covers a lot of ground in a clear concise fashion. It is very good in relation to suggestions as to how to coach specific cricket techniques to young people but it is not just a techniques manaual. It has a much broader appeal in terms of examining the components of effective coaching and how young cricketers should be encouraged to learn the game and develop their skills. It is not just for the coach. Any one concerned with youth cricket in terms of organsiation and managment would benefit from this book.
