Format: Paperback
This book has already become a loyal companion. It is a very pragmatic and yet sophisticated book dealing with the challenges of coaching in the real world. The chapters in the book address different relevant questions coaches are confronted with in their profession. Chapter one addresses the essential skills for a successful coach. Chapter two describes typical challenges for coaches and suggests appropriate actions, tools and approaches. Chapter three discusses difficult challenges for coaches and how to deal with them. Finally chapter four describes over fifty different coaching tools and useful models in a very distilled yet concise way. This is a book for the practitioner, the Business coach as well as the manager who wants to expand his toolbox. The only downer about this book is that it is not yet available as a hard cover edition. Due to my excessive travelling my loyal companion already now looks quite worn and torn.

The tools and techniques are described in a readily applicable fashion where learning is refreshed in a context specific manner. This is of great value, particularly when coaching within an organization and needing to reference what would be appropriate for a given setting.

Having discovered coaching as a manager, this tool has come to be an invaluable guide as I develop and sharpen my approach. This has also proved to be a clear reference point for what is emerging within the coaching profession, focusing on what works and keeping it relevant to the workplace and beyond.

The authors should be congratulated on making a subject that is often complicated readily accessible.

Practical and useful, this is a good book if you're looking for something to act as a reminder of the number of approaches and techniques available. A quick flick through before a one-to-one, or a coaching session will usually come up with something you may not have thought of.

Coaching essentials gives a great insight on coaching and includes a practical toolkit which is valuable to the non-expert practitioner.

The authors are experts in the area and run coaching courses for those interested in pursuing this further.

A must have for experienced and new coaches 2 Feb. 2012
By Tracey - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I find myself constantly dipping in and out of this little book both on a personal and business level. It provides me with inspiration and guidance not only for coaching sessions but also for planning leadership interventions. It contains simple advice and reminders of well known tools and techniques which can be applied pragmatically. Don't be fooled by the 'simplicity' of the content - it is a very clever way pulling together many well known techniques and breaking them down in a way that everyone can understand.
