Product Description

Desmond Morris

‘A fascinating account of the intertwined lives of four cats. A touching book, intelligently observed.’

Product Description

As The Coach House Cats" opens it is evident that the time has come to have Pushkin, the Russian Blue tom, and Titus, the ginger moggy queen, neutered. This was indeed the plan for Fannie, the tortoiseshell, but with her longed-for pregnancy well under way it must now be postponed. Fannie's due date for her kittens arrives and, in the time honoured tradition of cats and the best laid plans, unexpected problems arise. Following this drama, the household finds itself in turmoil again with the arrival of a black Bengal kitten, called Gilly, who massively disrupts the peace of both cats and people resident in The Coach House and sends Fannie in particular spiralling into despair. With a fine eye and ear for the world of natural history, Marilyn Edwards is able to write about bird and plant life, and indeed farming and village life in general, with both charm and passion. But as always, it is her observation of cats and their ways that make her books so utterly magical.

I came to this as a fan of the author's "the Cats of Moon Cottage" and the two sequels, and devoured it at a sitting, captivated afresh by the skill and charm of her writings of her four cats and their relationship with her and her husband and each other, with the added element of the discoveries of the beauties and the wildlife of their new home in a Cumbrian beauty spot. The illustrations are again gorgeous and the one disappointment was getting to the end - no more to read!

Marilyn again gives us a wonderful insight into her new life up here in Cumbria with her cats. Anyone who has read the previous three books will only be disappointed by the fact that this is the last of Moon Cottage Cat tales but hpoefully Marilyn will continue to delight us fans with more of her wonderful writing!! A beautiful book!!

Volume four in the successful Moon Cottage series. An emerging writer who is establishing herself as a leading writer on natural history, particularly cat behaviour, with keen observation and wit.
