Has anyone else had a problem where one of the pedals clunks? Mine's doing at the top of each stroke and wasn't remedied by tightening the pedal into the crank/arm. This must mean that whatever is causing the clunk is happening inside the sealed unit and I'm reluctant to start fiddling around in there. The bike is completely new so I'm going to look at returning it... although this will probably involve a fair amount of hassle.
As it was brand new I decided to get it replaced which was all pretty straight forward online but a pain to actually do as it's such a heavy and bulky thing to get collected and delivered (good luck getting it all back in the box). I am now on my second bike and have used it quite a lot over the last six months or so but it's developed a clunk again. I'm going to try and take the cover off although it doesn't look too easy to do and hopefully I'll be able to see what the problem is.
In the end I decided against trying to remove the panel as it I think I read in the manual that this might void the warranty. As it was still less than a year old I decided to report it to York who asked me check that everything was tightened up on it and then when I said that it was, agreed to replace the whole bike. I had some fun with the couriers not turning up when they were meant to but eventually managed to get everything sorted. If you choose to do this, make sure that you package the old bike up in the box from the new one!
Unfortunately the year long warranty only covers the first bike you buy and doesn't extend to cover the replacement bike even though this one is now only a few months old. So if this one starts clunking or breaks in any other way then I'll have to buy a new one as the warranty on the original bike has now expired... I might think twice about buying another York bike if this happens!
