Book Description

19 Sep 2008
'What if you are all designers? You don't design cups or jet engines; you design your own lives.' There is an 'ah!' moment in Clues from the Universe when two characters meet in a therapist's waiting room. One is an attractive female lawyer facing burnout, and the other is a wifeless Lotto winner whose marriage hit the rocks on a Caribbean cruise. When we realise the connectivity between these and Neil Taylor's other disparate characters - all cogs in the Langian metropolitan machine - this highly intelligent life guide speaks a wonderfully clear and optimistic message. How we live is a product of our own design, and it is up to us to look without and within for clues about ways to overcome fear and negative competitiveness, and learn how to operate collectively. The author's work as a counsellor and team coach, and his intimate knowledge of corporate gamesmanship, together with his sharp lawyer's mind and excellent narrative style, make this a handbook to cherish. Don't skim: digest and enjoy, and reap the rewards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Challenging, but fulfilling! 16 April 2009
By Jamie
Format:Paperback
Many people who will have met the author through his personal and professional coaching will instantly recognise his individual and honest style in this fascinating read.

I never saw myself as a "self-help" book reader - in fact I still don't - this is not to be pre-judged by the section of the store it might be found in! The book takes a fictional journey through the lives of several people whose lives interact in curious ways; the language is real and honest; the situations are clever and questioning and, sprinkled with good humour throughout, the outcome crystallises in a combustion of realisation and clarity.

While definitely not a light read, this is a challenging but fulfilling book which requires your concentration. One for by the pool on holiday, rather than the bustling commute. Give it the time it deserves, however, and you are rewarded with an insightful method with which to evaluate your life, identify the parts of you which you may not recognise as yourself, and through instilling an ethos of self-review and self-accountability, empowers you with the confidence and belief to take the action required to ensure the "outside" you reflects the improved "inside" you.

I would recommend this book to anybody who is serious about taking control of their life and their future, but may need the kick-start to begin. After reading this you will be sceptical of "destiny", other than that of your own design.

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars A worthy read 1 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
A book that reflects the intelligence and story telling ability of the author.

I read it in front of the fire on a cold Sunday. It is worth finding the time, the pages turn themselves and you will find it amusing and thought provoking.

A combination of stories and destinies, lives weaving their threads

It has some simple but wise concepts that can bring relief or inspiration to peoples lives.

It certainly gave me food for thought

Go on treat yourself

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerfull stuff 21 Nov 2009
By scott
Format:Paperback
I can honestly say that reading this book has had a massive impact on the way i view my life and the opportunities that present themselves to me. More importantly it has made me realise that I control my own destiny! The book doesn't preach an idealism but leads you to your own conclusions and answers, for me this has been very powerful. I'm sure other people will get something different, but for me it has unlocked a sense of freedom and excitement of where i can take my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Self Revealing Read 1 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
I used to think of the universe as a big and complicated place. I heard about this book and liked the thought of having clues to navigate my way around my life and that is what this book promised. I think I ended up thinking that the universe was much bigger than complicated, but feel hugely satisfied by the experience

I started to read Neil Taylor's 'Clues From The Universe' on a sunbed in Portofino, but soon realised I had to take it inside to a dark and altogether more serious place. This is not an instant gratuity read. It is a 'fold down the page and revisit' experience. Don't expect tips and tools for an easy life. Do expect to be challenged. Whatever you expect 'Clues From The Universe' will exceed your expectations. It does it with humour and pathos, telling new stories about old subjects. (I loved the stories and really hope there is a sequel, so I can be told what happens to the man in the cap and the woman with the brooch ... but I expect 'The Author' will want me to join the dots for myself ...)

Whether you are in the mood to enjoy the stories or to dig and keep digging you will be rewarded at every level. The blurb is right, books don't change your life, but this one got as close to that as is possible.

I highly recommend it.
