Judging from previous editions of the series, Clubland X-treme Hardcore seems to have gained a bit of a bad reputation amongst a lot of ravers for it's commercialised and 'cheesy' hardcore. Thankfully, this edition, while keeping some of the cheese, has managed to cram in some pretty hard tunes, which are scattered throughout the album. This I like, and I believe this edition bucks the cheesy trend! Another surprise, considering Breeze has always had CD2, was that I found myself enjoying Breeze's mix MORE than Styles'. I hate to say it, but on this occasion Breeze has surpassed his partner in crime in terms of variety, catchy lyrics, and sheer basslines (a good example would be 'F*@k It Up!' by Petruccio & Modulate, which I enjoyed immensely, and the extremely uplifting remix of 'Feels So Good' by Dakota Ray, oh, and 'SAW' by Eufeion). Sorry Stylesy, but I'm with Breezy on this one. The fact that Kevin Energy, an underground hardcore legend, features for the first time in the series (I believe), has got to be a good sign!
Hixxy is a legend in his own right and I'm glad his mix has finally lost the 'bonus CD' status and joined Styles and Breeze as 'Disc 3' and slams his usual mix of catchy vocals and uplifting melodies.
This is definately one of the better editions of the album, and one that people should buy, and be pleasantly surprised with, as I was.
I'm not really going to mention the 4th disc. All I will say is that it should have been called 'Best Ever CEH' as every track features on a Clubland X-treme Hardcore album at some stage and in reality, considering hardcore spans 15 years, the 'best' would be far too many tracks for one disc, but that's a minor niggle. Ignore the title and simply enjoy the tracks on it.
Definately worth a look!
