Book Description

15 May 2003
Clubland Confidential is a gloriously scandalous read, chronicling the rise and fall of America's nightclubs over the last ten years. Centred around the Limelight club in New York and the notorious 'Angel' murder, the colourful cast includes: - Chris Paciello: a Mafioso-turned-glamour boy, who before he was arrested for murder, dated Madonna and Jennifer Lopez - and Michael Alig: a professional party freak who created a youth movement in his own image, then ensured his tabloid immortality by dismembering one of his followers. Author Frank Owen has immersed himself in their world and befriended all the key characters. If Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil had been based at an Ecstasy rave, it would have looked something like this...

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye opening look a American clubland 31 Oct 2004
This is an excellent book which looks at all aspects of the life around the underworld in NY clubs. It mainly looks at at the legal case of club owner Peter Gatien and the highly publiciesed build up of the case. The book spins off to look at:
Low level drug dealers
DEA agents
Party promoters
I read this book on holiday and it kept me entertained throughout,

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb (factual based) thriller 23 Nov 2010
By Mr.B
This book is a factual journey of the rise of the Club / Dance scene in its roots in New York. It is written in the style of a thriller (surrounding a murder that genuinely happened) which keeps the pace up.

Interesting links accross to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Boy George, Wu Tang Clan etc. help to build a broader appeal and relevance to the world wide phenomenon of dance music from the early 80's.

A must read for any clubber, or non-clubber who wonders how squeeky beeps became a world wide million pound industry!!

I checked this out from the library. It was really good, and is central to my dissertation. A must read for anyone enjoying the study of fame, popular culture, or the music industry.
