Product Description

Product Description

Based on the international best selling book by Bafta award winning writer Geoff Thompson, Clubbed is a journey through family and fear set in the violent world of 1980's clubland.

Danny - a lonely factory worker, intimidated by life - is battered and humiliated in front of his kids in a random act of violence. His already bleak existence sinks further into the abyss.

On the verge of total breakdown he decides to fight back. He meets a group of nightclub doormen who take him in and give him the confidence to stand his ground. As he is drawn deeper into their world he becomes embroiled with the local gang boss, setting in motion a train of events with shockingly brutal consequences.

The 4 star reviews must be by people who worked in the movie or are friends of the actors because this has to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen, The acting was terrible, very bad plot and story line and a total cringe-worthy film from start to end. Well no after 40 minutes I gave up with it. Please do not be fooled by the rave reviews. Absolutely diabolical

Although I was warned `Clubbed' was a bit violent I'd also heard it was more than just another 'gangster' movie so decided to give it a go. What I saw was a surprisingly moving story about a guy who's hit rock-bottom and lost his self-respect. His journey to regain it takes him into the world of `80s clubland where he works as a bouncer. We meet the guys he works the door with and get to know and care about them - this is no cardboard cut-out crew just living for the violence. Yes, there is violence, and it's explicit, but it's never gratuitous and the movie wouldn't ring true without it.

This is a movie with real heart and soul and a great debut from director Neil Thompson (with a great `80s soundtrack to boot). Looking forward to his next film.

No need for doubt: grab it now!

I too came to it via Geoff Thompson's book "Watch my Back". I abhor violence, but - so unexpectedly - I couldn't put the book down: I never expected a book on violence to be so spiritual as well as explicit in context. So I just HAD to see the movie - and I found it a compelling and moving watch, with added twists to make it great even though I'd read the book.

So my recommendation? Go for the hat trick: Get the book, the DVD and the music soundtrack all together here on amazon. You won't regret you did; in fact, I bet that you'll be back buying more for presents!

'Clubbed' is real and hard hitting, emotional and thoughtful. The audience witness one man's desperation and another man's loyalty and courage. Although violent and harsh this story is one of courage and determination...Danny, factory worker turned bouncer, learns the tricks of the trade with Louis and Rob...not an easy experience for divorced father of 2. Sudden twists and turns unfold to keep the viewer engaged throughout...a real must see, true Brit Grit with emotional, touching performances and a taste of the 80's, with a cracking soundtrack..

This is probably not the sort of movie that I would normally buy, but having been recommended by a freind, I must say that I found it totally compelling, very believable, and very entertaining. I wasn't surprised to learn that the movie is based on a true story as it has that gritty feel and genuine emotion that only comes from true life experiences. It reminds me of some of the black and white movies of the sixties in that respect. A refreshing change from the insipid stream of "big name" movies that are the norm these days. The soundtrack and the "Making of" documentary are also excellent. I recommend it to anyone looking for a British movie with a totally believable storyline, real characters and real emotion.

Believe the reviews that it is badly acted. Also the costumes and attempt at "period" setting. Managed to maintain my interest, but really cant be too positive about it. Could've been a lot lot better

I couldnt disagree more to the last reviewer, I bought the dvd after seeing an ad on MTV. I really enjoyed this film and I am very proud to have it in my dvd collection. I felt the film was moving and inspiring. The music is fab and the film really captures the era. I look forward to watching clubbed for many years to come.
